A Birder's
Vacation Hidden in the Southern Piedmont Region
of The Virginia Birding and
Wildlife Trail; on the Staunton
River Loop is a retreat for a multitude of bird species; where Virginia bird
watching can be enjoyed year round from the beginner to the most skilled ornithologist.
We offer guided tours to explore the farm's marked hiking trails through the diverse
habitat of natural wetland, meadow, field, and forest; where Wild Turkey and Pileated
Woodpecker are at home. Come experience Spring and Fall migration as warblers
flit through the treetops and hawks dot the wide open sky. A crisp Virginia Winter
hike reveals Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets, Fox Sparrow, and Northern
Harrier. With each season, the feeding stations are alive with Pine Siskin, Purple
Finch, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Indigo Bunting, Blue Grosbeak, Gold Finch, and so
many more. At day's end, your host will lead you on an after dinner owl walk for
a chance to meet our resident Barred Owls and other species.
Since
the Autumn of 2001, the species of birds seen or heard at CornerStone Farm have
continued to be added to the following check list. Currently
listing 126 species.
